Fuel and Lubricants Hygiene

Diesel Fuel and Lubricants are essential for the operation of many types of machinery and equipment. For every litre of Diesel or Lubricants dispensed, a litre of air enters the tank. This air contains dust and water. Diesel and Lubricants are degraded by the introduction of dust and water, which can lead to a number of problems, including:
  • Corrosion - corrode the inside of the tank and the components of the fuel system / engine, which can weaken them and make them more likely to fail.

  • Contamination - clog filters, reducing the performance of the equipment, leading to increased engine wear and premature failure.

  • Microbiological Growth - water provides a breeding ground for microorganisms, such as bacteria and mould. These microorganisms produce acids, and other corrosive substances, that will damage the tank. Worse still the presence of microbiological growth will block filters resulting in machinery breakdowns and decreased production time.

  • Degradation - water accelerates the degradation of diesel fuel and lubricants, leading to the formation of gums, sediments, and other harmful substances.

Filtering the air entering a diesel or lubricants storage tank can help to prevent all of these problems. By removing water and dust from the air, the tank and the fuel system can be kept clean and dry, and the risks of corrosion, contamination, and product degradation are reduced.
