FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Which homeowner Magnum should I buy?

    Match by use frequency:

    • One-room interior repaint, fences, occasional DIY: Magnum Project Painter Plus
    • Serious DIY through weekend contractor: Magnum ProX17 (17H203) or ProX19 (17H210)
    • Regular residential / multi-room: Magnum X5 (16W120)
    • Larger residential / light-commercial: Magnum X7 (16W121); kit version 16W121-B
    • ProX17 with Pro DIY Kit: dedicated kit listing
    • ProX19 with Pro DIY Kit: dedicated kit listing

  • Can a homeowner sprayer do exterior walls and fences?

Yes. Magnum ProX17, ProX19, X5 and X7 all handle exterior walls, fences, decks, sheds and gates. Project Painter Plus is sized for smaller exterior jobs (single fence, small shed). For larger exterior jobs step up to ProX17 or higher. Use the right RAC X SwitchTip orifice for the paint viscosity (typically 517 to 521 for exterior walls, 411 to 515 for trim) and ensure adequate masking. Exterior airless work has more overspray potential than interior.

  • How do I clean a Magnum at end of shift?

End-of-shift Pump Armour flush extends pump life significantly. Workflow: drain remaining paint back into the can, run a clean-water flush through the pump and gun on waterborne paint (or appropriate solvent on solvent paint) until the run-off is clear, fill the pump with Pump Armour for storage. Skipping Pump Armour is the most common cause of premature pump failure. Even on occasional DIY use, the few minutes of end-of-shift work pays back in years of pump life.

  • Can I use the same RAC X tips on Magnum and Ultra?

Yes. The Graco RAC X SwitchTip range fits all Magnum, Ultra, Ultra Max II, FinishPro GX, Magnum handheld and the wider Graco airless paint sprayer family. One tip set covers the whole airless fleet. RAC X SwitchTips reverse in the holder to clear a tip clog without unbolting the gun. The standard productivity feature on the Graco airless line. Important: FFLP (Fine Finish Low Pressure) tips use a SMALLER seal than standard blue RAC X. Swap the OneSeal when switching tip families or the tip will leak.

  • Pro DIY Kit: what is included?

The Graco Magnum ProX17 / ProX19 Pro DIY Kit listings bundle the unit with the standard contractor consumable set: RAC X SwitchTip, BlueMax II hose, Contractor airless gun, cleaning kit. The Magnum X7 Essentials Kit (16W121-B) is the equivalent bundle on the X7 unit. Bundles save against ordering unit plus consumables separately and are the standard first-order pathway for homeowner buyers. Add Pump Armour to the order for end-of-shift care.

Homeowner Airless Paint Sprayers

Homeowner airless paint sprayers from Graco - the Magnum family for DIY and serious-DIY use. Same RAC X SwitchTip ecosystem as the professional Ultra and Ultra Max II lines, simpler controls, lower capex, ready to run on residential and light-commercial work.

Entry: Magnum Project Painter Plus. Graco Magnum Project Painter Plus is the entry homeowner airless. One-room interior repaints, fences, occasional DIY. Lightweight, simple controls, RAC X SwitchTips, ready out of the box.

Step up: ProX17, ProX19, X5, X7. Magnum ProX17 (17H203) and ProX19 (17H210) for serious DIY through weekend contractor work. Magnum X5 (16W120) and X7 (16W121) for general residential through light-commercial. The X7 ships in a kit version (16W121-B with Essentials Kit). ProX17 and ProX19 are also available bundled with the Pro DIY Kit, which adds the matched RAC X SwitchTip set plus consumables for first-job deployment.

When to step up to professional. If you spray paint more than two days a week for paid work, the Graco Ultra 395 PC (17E881), Ultra Max II 495 PC Pro (17E889) and 390 PC Stand (17C386) professional range is the right call. Higher pump duty cycle, ProConnect quick-change pump and FastFlush cleaning save service downtime that pays back the higher capex. The Vortex pump on Ultra Max II ProContractor delivers packings around 6 times longer than the standard piston-pump system. For DIY and weekend contractor use, Magnum stays the right call.

Pump Armour at end of every shift. The single biggest determinant of Magnum pump life is end-of-shift Pump Armour flushing. Even on occasional DIY use, the few minutes per shift pays back in years of pump life. Without Pump Armour, dried paint binds the packings and piston and is the most common cause of premature pump failure.
