FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Which mesh number for which job?

Lower mesh = coarser filter. 30 mesh for thick coatings + heavy primer + texture (Contractor II + FTx). 60 mesh for standard contractor finish - most common across the catalog. 100 mesh for finer-finish work (cabinet, premium residential, light HVLP). 200 mesh for very fine finish (HVLP, fine finish, automotive refinish). 300 mesh for ultra-fine specialty work. Match mesh to coating viscosity + finish requirement.

  • Inlet strainer, manifold filter or gun filter - which do I need?

All three. Inlet strainer at the suction-side prevents debris from the bucket entering the pump. Manifold filter between pump + gun is the main paint clean stage. Gun filter at the gun is the last clean before the tip. Filter at every stage - coarser at the inlet, finer at the gun. Skipping any stage means debris reaches the next stage and clogs faster.

  • Easy-Out vs standard manifold filter?

Graco Easy-Out filters are the improved design - longer body, easier to extract for cleaning + replacement, less downtime per filter change. Available in 60/100/200 mesh + short + long body to match the unit. Standard manifold filters fit older sprayers + budget unit. If your unit takes Easy-Out, run Easy-Out for the time savings on shift change.

  • How do I match a filter to my Graco unit?

Each Graco unit takes a specific filter form-factor: Magnum + Ultra QuickShot = compact 60/100 mesh 3-pack. Ultra Handheld = dedicated FlexLiner range. Mark V XT + Mark VII + Mark X = Easy-Out manifold filter range. Contractor PC + PC Compact = SG2/SG3/SG10 family. FTx + Contractor II = standard gun filter (30/100/200 mesh). Edge II Plus = dedicated strainer. FinishPro HVLP = HVLP filter kit. ProShot = tip filter kit. Always check unit model + part number before ordering.

  • How often replace?

Inlet strainer: clean every shift, replace if torn. Manifold filter: every 1-2 weeks of daily use (sooner if pressure drop is noticeable). Gun filter: replace as paint flow drops. Tip filter: every paint change. Skipping filter changes strains the pump + accelerates pump rebuild interval - cost of a filter is far less than cost of a pump.

Paint Sprayer Filters & Strainers

66 Graco airless paint sprayer filter elements + suction strainers + paint strainers. Manifold filters (60/100/200/300 mesh, Easy-Out + standard, short + long), gun filters matched to unit, inlet strainers for the suction-side, paint strainers for bucket-side filtration. Unit-matched filter range covering Magnum + Ultra QuickShot + Ultra Handheld + Mark V XT + Mark VII + Mark X + Contractor PC + Contractor PC Compact + FTx + FinishPro HVLP + ProShot + TrueCoat 360 + Air-Assisted + Edge II Plus + SG2/SG3/SG10 + MST.

Mesh number ladder. Lower mesh number = coarser filter (larger holes, more flow, less clogging). Higher mesh = finer (smaller holes, cleaner finish, more frequent change). 30 mesh for thick coatings + heavy primer + texture (Contractor II + FTx). 60 mesh for standard contractor finish - the most common spec across the catalog. 100 mesh for finer-finish work (cabinet, premium residential, light HVLP). 200 mesh for very fine finish (HVLP, fine finish, automotive refinish). 300 mesh for ultra-fine specialty work.

Three filter locations on a sprayer. Inlet strainer (suction-side, between paint container + pump) - prevents debris from the bucket entering the pump. Always run this. Manifold filter (between pump + gun, in the manifold) - main paint clean stage. Easy-Out variants speed up the change. Gun filter (at the gun, before the tip) - last clean before paint hits the tip. Some specialty applications also use a tip filter inside the tip. Filter at every stage; finer at the gun, coarser at the inlet.

Easy-Out vs standard manifold filter. Graco Easy-Out manifold filters are the improved design - longer body, easier to extract for cleaning + replacement, less downtime per filter change. Available in 60/100/200 mesh + short + long body to match the unit. Standard manifold filters fit older sprayers + budget unit - same mesh range, slightly slower service.

Match filter to unit. Graco unit use specific filter form-factors: Magnum + Ultra QuickShot use compact filters (60/100 mesh, 3-pack consumable). Ultra Handheld (FlexLiner) has a dedicated handheld filter range. Mark V XT + Mark VII + Mark X use the Easy-Out manifold filter range. Contractor PC + PC Compact gun uses the SG2/SG3/SG10 filter family. FTx + Contractor II gun uses the standard 30/100/200 mesh gun filter. Edge II Plus has a dedicated strainer. FinishPro HVLP ProContractor + ProComp use the dedicated HVLP filter kit. ProShot uses the tip filter kit. Always check the unit model + part number match before ordering.

Replacement intervals. Inlet strainer: clean every shift, replace if torn. Manifold filter: replace every 1-2 weeks of daily use, sooner if pressure drop across filter is noticeable. Gun filter: replace as paint flow drops noticeably. Tip filter: replace every paint change. Skipping filter changes is a common cause of pump strain + premature pump rebuild.

Paint strainer (bucket-side). Velocity 10/20 L Paint Strainer (3-pack) for filtering paint as it pours from the can into the sprayer hopper or bucket - removes lumps + skin from the paint before it enters the sprayer system. Standard kit on contractor truck for any can-to-sprayer transfer.
