FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Cordless or corded handheld: which do I choose?

Cordless (Ultra QuickShot, Ultra Cordless 17N221, UltraMAX Cordless, TrueCoat 360 Connect) for portable touch-up where mains power is awkward: outside fences, exterior walls, sites without power access, indoor work where a trailing cord is a hazard. Corded (Ultra Corded 230V AC 17M362, TrueCoat 360 Variable Speed 17F329 VSP) for sustained handheld use where battery changeovers would interrupt the work: cabinet shop benches, doors and trim production runs, fine-finish handheld sessions of more than 30 minutes.

  • What is TrueCoat 360 and TrueAirless?

TrueCoat 360 is the Graco handheld design that lets the operator hold the unit at any angle, including upside down for ceiling and underneath-surface spraying, without losing prime. The reversible-tip head feeds material to the tip regardless of unit orientation. TrueAirless is the matched tip and atomisation system for the TrueCoat handheld: produces an airless spray pattern with reduced overspray and easier control than a full-pressure airless. TrueCoat 360 Cordless Connect, TrueCoat 360 Variable Speed and TrueCoat 360 VSP are the family variants.

  • Why does Aqua Enamel struggle on a handheld airless?

Aqua Enamel and similar water-based trim paints sit at the upper end of what handheld airless can atomise cleanly. The handheld pump pressure (around 1500 to 2000 PSI on most handheld unit) and the gun-side atomisation work well for general residential paint but can leave Aqua Enamel finish quality short on doors and trim. The FinishPro II 395 PC Air-Assisted Airless (full unit with 10 to 15 PSI air assist via the G40 HVLP gun) solves this: the airless pump drives the flow rate and the air assist delivers the finer atomisation Aqua Enamel needs. Customers often try 514 tip on a handheld for Aqua Enamel doors and trim; the Dulux TDS actually recommends 21 / 411 with FFLP for this coating.

  • Can a handheld replace a full unit sprayer?

No. Different use cases. Handheld airless is sized for touch-up, small jobs and sites where a unit would be overkill. Full-unit Magnum and Ultra are sized for sustained sessions, multi-room interiors, exterior walls, fences, decks and any job over a few hundred square metres of coverage. Most contractors carry both: a full unit on the truck for the bulk and a handheld for the touch-up, masking-edge clean-up and hard-to-access spaces.

  • Do handheld sprayers take RAC X SwitchTips?

Yes, the Graco handheld airless range uses the same RAC X SwitchTip ecosystem as the full unit range. RAC X LTX for general paint, RAC X FFLP for low-pressure cabinet and trim work. The TrueCoat 360 family uses the matched TrueAirless tip range. Tips and consumables cross over between handheld and full unit units, which means one consumable kit covers the whole airless fleet. Important: FFLP tips use a SMALLER seal than standard blue RAC X. Swap the OneSeal when switching tip families or the tip will leak.

Choosing the Right Handheld Airless Sprayer

Handheld airless paint sprayers for touch-up, small-area work, fine finish, and any job where bringing a full electric airless unit on-site is overkill. Graco Ultra QuickShot, TrueCoat 360 Connect, and Ultra Cordless families cover the cordless handheld segment with the same RAC X SwitchTip ecosystem as the full Graco airless range.

Battery cordless: Ultra QuickShot, Ultra Cordless, TrueCoat 360 Connect. Graco Ultra QuickShot Portable Airless Paint Sprayer is the entry battery handheld. Ultra Cordless Handheld Airless Sprayer (17N221) and UltraMAX Cordless Handheld Airless Sprayer step up the duty cycle. TrueCoat 360 Cordless Connect TrueAirless Paint Sprayer adds the TrueCoat 360 reversible-tip design for spraying at any angle, including upside down for ceiling work, without losing prime.

Use case sweet spot. Handheld airless suits small jobs (single doors, single fences, single accent walls), touch-up on completed work, hard-to-access spaces (between studs, behind cabinets, around fittings) and noise-restricted sites where a corded electric airless unit or petrol airless is overkill or impractical. The handheld delivers a true RAC X airless atomisation pattern in a sub-5 kg cordless package.

Tip selection. Handheld airless takes the same RAC X SwitchTip range as full electric airless units. RAC X LTX for general paint, RAC X FFLP (Fine Finish Low Pressure) for cabinet, trim and finish work where lower pressure gives a finer finish. Note the FFLP smaller-seal rule: the FFLP tip uses a different OneSeal than standard LTX - swap the OneSeal when changing tip families.
