FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • What is the best line marking machine for a small carpark business?

Two strong options: the Graco LineLazer ES 500 if you want battery (DeWalt 54V FlexVolt, around 37 L per twin-battery charge, 1-gun manual silver-plus, indoor-warehouse capable, no fuel handling, ships with LL5319) or the Graco LineLazer 3400 if you want petrol (Honda GX120 4 HP, 0.75 GPM, max 0.027 inch tip, 73 kg, ships with LL5319 + LL5317, the long-running carpark workhorse). Both ship with the RAC 5 SwitchTips you need for 75-150 mm carpark lines. Add a Brady stencil kit for bay numbering and give-way bars on first order, plus a 1 gallon Pump Armour for end-of-shift flush.

  • Can I use a carpark line marker on bitumen and concrete?

Yes for both, with the right paint and surface prep. Waterborne paint adheres to clean dry bitumen and asphalt without primer. Concrete requires the curing compound to be removed first (grinding or sandblasting) per ATS 4110 8.4 if it is rigid concrete on a public-road work site; sealed indoor concrete usually accepts a primer pass before line application. Cold applied plastic (CAP / MMA) is the durable choice for either surface, especially heavy-traffic carpark entries that re-mark every year on standard paint.

  • Do I need pressurised bead for carpark work?

Generally no. Carparks are private property, so no ATS 4110 retroreflectivity mandate. A drop-on (gravity) bead delivery via the standard unit bead hopper is sufficient for visibility and tyre-shear retention. Pressurised bead is required for council long-line and contractor public-road work (where ATS 4110 retroreflectivity targets of 350 mcd/m²/lx for white longitudinal markings within the first 30 days apply). For a typical carpark, the LineLazer 3400 or ES 1000 with a basic gravity bead drop kit is the standard fit-out.

  • How long does carpark line marking last?

Waterborne paint on bitumen lasts 1-3 years on a typical carpark, depending on traffic volume and surface condition. Solvent paint can last slightly longer but is restricted under ATS 4110 5.6 unless the Principal approves it (carparks aren't ATS 4110 jobs but the same paint conformance logic applies). Cold applied plastic (MMA) lasts 5-8 years on heavy-traffic carpark entries and is the choice when you don't want to re-mark every two years. Thermoplastic suits piano-key crossings and bay-defining lines on commercial sites: expect 3-8 years of life.

  • Do you supply paint, stencils and consumables alongside the machine?

Yes. We carry the full Australian-made line marking paint range (waterborne and solvent), Brady carpark stencil kits (numerals, accessibility symbol, arrows, give-way, stop), custom stencil orders on enquiry (council branding, oversized symbols, non-standard bay sizes), and the consumables to keep the machine running (RAC 5 SwitchTips, BlueMax II hoses, Endurance Pump replacements, Pump Armour 1 gallon). First-order bundles typically include the unit, a stencil pack, a starter paint pallet, the Stripe More Kit, and the spare Endurance Pump.

Choosing the Right Carpark Line Marking Machine

A carpark line marking machine paints parking bays, accessibility symbols, give-way bars, arrows and pedestrian crossings on bitumen, asphalt and sealed concrete carparks, school grounds, council yards and small council streets. The right unit comes down to volume of work (occasional restripe vs daily contractor), site constraints (mains-power vs no-power, indoor warehouse vs outdoor), and whether you ever step up to council long-line or sports-field paint with the same unit.

Battery walk-behind. The Graco LineLazer ES 500 (DeWalt 54V FlexVolt battery, 1-gun manual, ~37 L per twin-battery charge, ships with LL5319 RAC 5 SwitchTip) is the entry battery walk-behind for occasional carpark restripes, sub-$5,000, no fuel handling, indoor-warehouse capable, walk-behind silver-plus gun, perfect for shopping-centre after-hours work. Step up to the Graco LineLazer ES 1000 (lithium 12V brushless DC, 0.6 GPM, max 0.025 inch tip, QuikSelect 1-2 gun) for fleet carpark and council yard work. The LineLazer V ES 2000 HP Automatic adds auto guns, MaxPower DC + Advantage Drive, J-Log USB proof-of-job, and LazerGuide for higher-throughput council carpark networks.

Petrol walk-behind. The Graco LineLazer 3400 (Honda GX120 4 HP petrol, 0.75 GPM, max 0.027 inch tip, ships with LL5319 + LL5317, 73 kg) is the long-running carpark workhorse and the entry-petrol airless line striper of choice. Pair with a LineDriver HD ride-on attachment for shifts longer than four hours. For larger carpark networks and small council street runs the LineLazer V 3900 and V 5900 ProContractor-class unit (Honda GX390, larger pump, 1 manual or 1 auto or 1 auto + 1 manual variants, optional LazerGuide 2000) handle higher-volume work without stepping all the way up to a long-line V 200HS or V 250SPS.

Stencils and tape. Add a Brady carpark stencil kit on first orders for routine bay numbering, accessibility symbols, give-way bars, and arrows; custom shapes (council branding, oversized accessibility, piano-key sets) are available on enquiry with a 1-2 week lead time. For temporary lane diversions and roadworks-style markings the Graco TapeLazer HP Automatic Series Traffic Tape Applicator with LazerGuide 3000 lays self-adhesive road marking tape at controlled tension.

Every council and contractor purchase includes operator training, on-site commissioning, and the Stripe More Kit (LL5319 + LL5421 + 286 RAC 5 Stencilling SwitchTip + RAC 5 tip extension + spares). Add a spare Endurance Pump (Graco 246428) and a year's supply of Pump Armour 1 gallon (Graco 245133) for end-of-shift flushing; skipping Pump Armour is the single biggest cause of full-pump-rebuild service jobs on infrequent-use carpark units.
