FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Why is Pump Armour so important?

Graco Pump Armour Fluid Range is the end-of-shift flush fluid that protects the pump and packings from drying paint between shifts. Without Pump Armour, residual paint dries in the pump chamber, binding the packings and piston, accelerating wear and shortening pump rebuild interval significantly. End-of-shift workflow: drain remaining paint, run a clean-water flush on waterborne (or appropriate solvent on solvent paint), fill the pump with Pump Armour for storage. The few minutes per shift pay back over multi-year pump life. Graco technical: when paint is left in the system overnight, it dries in the suction tube, drain tube, manifold and main pump and requires full replacement of all affected parts.

  • What does TSL do?

Throat Seal Liquid (TSL) sits in the throat seal cup at the top of the Graco pump and lubricates the piston rod seal. The piston rod moves up and down through the throat seal on every spray cycle; TSL prevents the seal from drying out and cracking. Running TSL-dry is the second-biggest cause of premature pump packing failure (after skipping Pump Armour). Top up at every service interval and immediately if level drops below the visible mark.

  • FlexLiner: when do I use it?

FlexLiner is the Graco disposable-liner system on Ultra handheld sprayers. Paint loads into a FlexLiner bag inside the cup; when the job is done the operator empties any remaining paint and disposes of the bag, leaving the cup clean. Saves the time of cup wash-out between paint colour changes or material changes. Standard kit on cabinet contractors and shops doing multi-colour work where cup cleaning would add significant time per colour change.

  • Industrial wipes for gun cleaning?

ULTRAGRIME Pro XXL Multiuse Industrial Wipes (100 wipes per pack) cover gun head wipe-down between paint changes, hand cleaning, and unit surface clean. Stronger and larger than standard shop wipes; suits paint sprayer cleaning where a smaller wipe would tear or leave residue. Standard kit on every contractor truck for clean-up between paint changes and end-of-shift wipe-down.

  • Do I need solvent for end-of-shift cleaning?

Depends on the paint chemistry. Waterborne paint flushes with clean water, then Pump Armour for storage. Solvent paint flushes with the matched solvent (typically mineral turpentine or a specific Graco-approved solvent), then Pump Armour for storage. Match the flush solvent to the paint sheet from the manufacturer; using the wrong flush solvent can damage seals or leave residue that affects the next paint application. For industrial solvent-based coatings on steel, follow the SDS and PPE requirements per AS/NZS 1715 (respiratory).

Sprayer Cleaning & Maintenance

End-of-shift cleaning products and maintenance fluids for the Graco airless sprayer family. Pump Armour, Throat Seal Liquid (TSL), FlexLiner paint bags and FlexLiner cup assemblies extend pump life, reduce service downtime and keep the gun and pump operating at spec.

Pump Armour: the single biggest pump-life determinant. Graco Pump Armour Fluid Range is the end-of-shift flush fluid that protects the pump and packings from drying paint between shifts. Skipping Pump Armour is the most common cause of premature pump failure on infrequent-use unit. End-of-shift workflow: drain remaining paint, run a clean-water flush through the pump and gun on waterborne paint (or appropriate solvent on solvent paint) until run-off is clear, fill the pump with Pump Armour for storage. The few minutes per shift pay back over multi-year pump life. Also covers anti-corrosive storage protection for the pump and the wider fluid system.

Dried paint and the prevention rule. Note from Graco technical: when a LineLazer or airless sprayer is left with paint in the system, the paint dries in the suction tube, drain tube, manifold and main pump. That requires full replacement of all affected parts, not just cleaning. Prevention is always flush with Pump Armour for storage - anti-corrosive oil-based storage solution that increases pump longevity.

Throat Seal Liquid (TSL). Graco Throat Seal Liquid (TSL) sits in the throat seal cup at the top of the pump and lubricates the piston rod seal.

FlexLiner paint bags and cups. Graco FlexLiner Paint Bags and FlexLiner Cup Assembly Range cover the FlexLiner system on Ultra handheld sprayers. FlexLiner bags load paint into the cup as a disposable liner, eliminating cup-side cleaning between paint changes. Saves time on jobs where the operator switches paint colour or material multiple times.

Industrial wipes. ULTRAGRIME Pro XXL Multiuse Industrial Wipes (100 wipes per pack) cover gun wipe-down, hand wipe and unit surface clean. Stronger and larger than standard shop wipes. Standard kit on every contractor truck for clean-up between paint changes and end-of-shift wipe-down.
