FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • ToughTek CM20 versus MP20 versus M680a?

CM20 Continuous Mixer (25M563) for high-volume continuous mix-and-pump work - dry mix and water fed continuously, output direct to gun. MP20 single-phase mixing pump for smaller batch work - load dry material, mix with water, pump to gun in batches. M680a Hopper Piston Pump (262927) is purpose-built for high-viscosity mortar mixed with sand (2-part epoxy mortars) - pre-mixed material loaded into the hopper and pumped to the gun. Match by daily volume and whether the workflow is continuous or batch.

  • What materials can the ToughTek pump?

Mortar, cement, render, plaster, grout, EIFS coatings and similar high-viscosity material. The M680a specifically handles high-viscosity mortar mixed with sand (per Graco technical, purpose-built for 2-part epoxy mortar). The F340e and S340e in the fireproofing collection handle cementitious fireproofing (F340e Xypex Concentrate confirmed). Specific compatibility depends on material viscosity, aggregate size and abrasiveness. Talk to GO with the material spec sheet and we will confirm ToughTek model fit and any required pump rebuild interval adjustments for abrasive materials.

  • Why no electric airless for sand or stone?

Standing rule from Graco technical (Jeff Nind): "you cannot spray any product with a sand or stone with an electric unit through a spray tip." Sand and stone aggregate damages electric airless tip orifices and pump packings rapidly, and the airless tip geometry is not designed to pass aggregate. Sand and stone require the Graco ToughTek range, which uses hopper-feed and piston-pump architecture sized for aggregate material. Vermiculite is similarly aggregate-sensitive - Graco technical recommends FastFinish Pro or RTX5500PX (not ToughTek) for vermiculite.

  • Service life on abrasive materials?

Abrasive mortar and cement work shorten pump packing and piston life compared to paint or thinner coatings. Plan for more frequent packing replacement and piston / liner inspection per the ToughTek operator manual. End-of-day flush is critical - drying mortar in the pump chamber causes major service work. End-of-day workflow: drain remaining material, run a clean-water flush through the pump until run-off is clear, fill the pump with appropriate flush fluid for storage.

  • Do you offer training on ToughTek pumps?

Yes. On-site training and commissioning available Australia-wide on CM20, MP20 and M680a unit. Training covers material loading, mix ratio calibration, pump pressure setup, gun selection, and end-of-day flush - all critical to extending pump life on abrasive mortar and cement work. PPE per AS/NZS 1715 (respiratory) on cementitious dust generation.

Choosing the Right Mortar & Cement Applicator

Graco ToughTek mortar and cement applicator pumps for plaster, render, mortar, cement and similar high-viscosity material spraying and pumping. ToughTek MP20 single-phase mixing pump and ToughTek M680a hopper piston pump cover the AU mortar / cement applicator range.

ToughTek MP20 mixing pump. Single-phase electric mixing pump, batch mortar / cement work. Operator loads dry mix and water at the spec ratio; the MP20 mixes and pumps to the gun. Suits smaller-volume jobs and sites without three-phase power.

ToughTek M680a hopper piston pump (262927). Purpose-built for high-viscosity mortar mixed with sand - 2-part epoxy mortars and similar high-aggregate materials. Direct-feed hopper, pre-mixed mortar loaded into the hopper and pumped to the gun. Suits sites where the mix is prepared separately (mortar mixer + barrow) and the M680a is used purely as the pumping unit.

The sand-and-stone rule. Standing rule from Graco technical (Jeff Nind): you cannot spray any product with sand or stone through an electric airless tip. Sand and stone require the ToughTek range. For acrylic textures without aggregate, the RTX5500PX is the right call. For Level 5 plaster finish and roof restoration membrane (no aggregate), Mark V XT covers it. For sand or stone aggregate, ToughTek only.

Service life on abrasive materials. Abrasive mortar and cement work shorten pump packing and piston life compared to paint or thinner coatings. The ToughTek units are designed for this duty cycle but expect more frequent service intervals than paint-only equipment. Stock pump repair kits and packing sets ahead of long jobs.
