FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Portable ToughTek or heavy-duty GH Big Rig?

Portable ToughTek (F340e, S340e, P30X) for floor-to-floor structural steel fireproofing on commercial construction where the unit moves often. F340e Xypex Concentrate compatibility confirmed. S340e does NOT have an integrated air compressor - requires external air. Heavy-duty Big Rig GH 933, GH 933 ES, GH 833 ES for high-volume fixed-location work - large warehouses, multi-storey commercial, refinery structural. As a working rule, ToughTek for portable single-team work; Big Rig for high-volume teams running 8-hour fireproofing shifts. For intumescent (e.g. Interchar 3120) step up to King 70:1 or King E60 with LTX527/LTX327 tips.

  • Cementitious or intumescent: which sprayer?

Both ToughTek portable and GH Big Rig unit handle cementitious fireproofing. Intumescent fireproofing (Interchar 3120 etc.) typically needs the higher-ratio air-driven unit King 70:1 or King E60 with LTX527 or LTX327 tips (25 to 27 thousandths orifice for single-leg intumescent spray) - check the material spec sheet for sprayer compatibility before specifying. Talk to GO with the material spec and the target fire-rating.

  • AS 1530.4 fire-rating compliance?

The applied coating thickness determines the achieved fire-rating per AS 1530.4. Sprayer pump pressure, tip selection, material temperature and operator technique all affect the applied thickness. The unit is the equipment; the fire-rating is the coating thickness. Document the applied thickness per the project quality plan and the manufacturer's spec sheet. PPE per AS/NZS 1715 (respiratory) for cementitious dust and AS/NZS 2210.1 / 2210.3 (safety footwear, eye protection) on construction site work.

  • Do you offer commissioning for fireproofing unit?

Yes. On-site training and commissioning available Australia-wide on ToughTek, GH Big Rig, King series and the wider industrial range. Fireproofing commissioning includes operator training on the specific cementitious or intumescent material, calibration of pump pressure and tip selection against coating TDS, end-of-day flush procedure and PPE per AS/NZS 1715. For intumescent on hazardous-area sites, King E60 hazardous-area approval may be required.

  • End-of-day flush on fireproofing?

Critical on fireproofing unit. Cementitious fireproofing left in the pump chamber sets and causes major service work. End-of-day workflow: drain remaining material, run a clean-water flush through the pump until run-off is clear, fill the pump with appropriate flush fluid for storage. Skipping the flush is the most common cause of premature pump failure on fireproofing unit. Abrasive cementitious materials shorten packing and piston life vs paint - plan for more frequent service intervals.

Fireproofing Sprayers

Graco ToughTek and GH Big Rig fireproofing sprayers for spray-applied fire-resistive material (SFRM) work. Cementitious and intumescent fireproofing application on structural steel, ducting and similar fire-rated work.

Portable ToughTek family. ToughTek F340e (portable pumps), ToughTek S340e Piston Pump Package and ToughTek P30X cover the portable fireproofing segment. Suits structural-steel fireproofing on commercial construction sites where the unit needs to move floor-to-floor. F340e Xypex Concentrate compatibility confirmed by Graco technical. S340e does NOT have an integrated air compressor - requires external air supply.

Heavy-duty Big Rig: GH 933 family. Graco GH 933 ES, GH 933 and GH 833 ES Big Rig Gas Hydraulic Sprayers are the heavy-duty fireproofing unit for high-volume, large-area fireproofing work: large warehouses, multi-storey commercial, refinery structural steel. Gas hydraulic drive matches the high-flow, high-pressure demands of cementitious fireproofing. Tip selection on GH 833 Big Rig: 643 or 645 (large orifice for high-build protective coatings and heavy fireproofing).

Intumescent and the King 70:1 alternative. For intumescent fireproofing (e.g. Interchar 3120), Graco King 70:1 or King E60 in the hazardous-area version is the matched unit from the industrial range. LTX527 or LTX327 tips (25 to 27 thousandths orifice) for single-leg intumescent spray. Cross-reference the coating TDS for minimum pressure and tip orifice on every fireproofing quote.

Compliance: AS 1530.4 fire-rating. Cementitious and intumescent fireproofing materials must be applied per the manufacturer's spec sheet for the specific fire-rating (typically AS 1530.4 Fire Resistance Levels). Sprayer pump pressure, tip selection and material temperature all affect the applied coating thickness, which determines the achieved fire-rating. Document the applied thickness per the project quality plan and the manufacturer's spec sheet.
