FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Sherlock vs Sherlock GT: which one?

Sherlock is the standard threaded pole + cage system - twist-locks the pole into the frame, fast and reliable for general interior work. Sherlock GT adds a threaded screw-in tip for a positive lock with no slop - the right pick when the painter is on a long extension pole with a wet roller and needs zero pole-frame movement on every stroke. A conversion tip lets a Sherlock GT pole take Sherlock-standard frames where the painter wants the GT pole but a Sherlock-standard cage already on the truck.

  • Fiberglass or aluminium pole?

Fiberglass is non-conductive, lighter than aluminium at the same rating, and corrosion-proof in salt air - the right pick for work near energised conductors and for coastal exterior applications. Aluminium costs less and suits standard interior and general exterior work where electrical conductivity isn't a concern. Match the pole to the work environment, not just the price.

  • Twist-lock or double-lock?

Twist-lock extends fast but can slip under heavy load over time. Double-lock adds a secondary positive lock that won't slip. Spec double-lock for full-reach long-pole work with a wet roller; twist-lock is fine for short and medium reach where slip-under-load isn't the risk.

  • Do I need a tool holder?

If the painter is using non-standard tools (scrapers, brushes without their own thread, finish tools) on a pole, a Wooster Lock-Jaw tool holder converts a standard threaded pole into a multi-tool reach extender. Saves carrying multiple poles for different jobs. The Sherlock GT conversion tip is a separate option that lets a GT-threaded pole take Sherlock-standard frame threads.

  • Does fibreglass corrode like aluminium?

No, fibreglass is corrosion-resistant by construction. Aluminium poles can corrode at the locking collar where moisture and paint trap salt and accelerate galvanic corrosion. Fibreglass is the better choice for damp environments (bathroom rough-in, basement, marine adjacent), outdoor extended-storage poles, and any environment where pole life matters more than the marginal weight difference.

Extension Poles

Telescopic and fixed-length extension poles for roller frames and tools. Wooster Sherlock and Sherlock GT, iQUIP Fiberglass Double-Lock, Monarch aluminium and Wooster Lock-Jaw tool holder. 14 products covering 0.6 m through 3.6 m+ reach for ceiling, exterior wall and high-rise work.

Sherlock GT vs Sherlock standard. Wooster Sherlock is the standard threaded-pole + locking-cage system for paint roller use - the pole twist-locks into the Sherlock cage frame. Sherlock GT is the upgrade with a threaded screw-in tip that gives a positive lock without slop - the right pick where the painter is loading a long pole with a wet roller and needs zero pole-frame movement. Conversion tips are available so a Sherlock GT pole can take Sherlock-standard frames.

Fiberglass vs aluminium. Fiberglass poles (iQUIP Fiberglass Double-Lock) are non-conductive, lighter than equivalent-rated aluminium and won't corrode in salt air or exterior weather. The right pick for electrical-safety-sensitive work near energised conductors and for exterior coastal applications. Aluminium poles (Monarch range) cost less and are the standard for most interior and general exterior work where electrical conductivity isn't a concern. Match the pole to the work environment.

Locking mechanism. Twist-lock telescopic mechanisms (most pole ranges) extend by twisting the lower section against the upper to grip - fast deployment but can slip under heavy load over time. Double-lock mechanisms (iQUIP Fiberglass Double-Lock) add a secondary positive lock that won't slip. Spec the double-lock where the painter is going to long reach and full roller load.

Length ranges. Monarch 0.6 to 1.2 m for short-reach work above standard ladder reach. Monarch 1.2 to 2.4 m for one-storey interior ceiling work. Wooster Sherlock extension and Sherlock GT extension cover longer reach for high ceilings, exterior eaves and second-storey work. Match the pole to the longest reach on the job - too-long poles are heavier and harder to control on short work.

Wooster Lock-Jaw tool holder. Wooster Lock-Jaw is a tool holder that mounts on the pole tip and accepts a variety of brushes, scrapers and tools that don't have their own thread - lets the painter use a single pole as a multi-tool reach extender. The conversion tip option also lets a Sherlock GT pole take a standard Sherlock-threaded accessory.
