FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Axial or triplex pump: which one?

Axial pump on entry/mid-tier units - direct-driven, lower-cost, suits intermittent and DIY use. Triplex (plunger) pump on commercial and heavy-commercial - belt or gear-driven, higher pressure, much longer service life, the right pick for daily commercial use. If the unit is going to be used multiple hours per shift, multiple days per week, spec triplex. If it's an occasional weekend tool, axial is fine.

  • Honda GX, Vanguard or Kohler engine?

Honda GX is the contractor industry standard - reliability, parts availability, long service life. Vanguard (Briggs & Stratton) suits heavy commercial. Kohler runs in some specialty applications. The engine HP rating must support the pump flow + pressure - undersized engines lug at full load and don't last. Standard petrol contractor washers run Honda GX160 (5.5 HP) to GX390 (13 HP) depending on PSI + L/min spec.

  • How many cleaning hours can I get per day?

Commercial triplex-pump units rated for 6-8 hour daily continuous use; axial pumps rated for 1-2 hours continuous, then cool-down. Triplex pumps need annual oil service + seal/valve check; axial pumps need same but with shorter service interval. Match the duty cycle to the work pattern - daily commercial work needs triplex.

  • Cold or hot water?

Cold water for general surface clean - paint prep, fence, exterior brick, concrete patio, vehicle wash. Hot water (diesel-burner heated) for grease, oil, food residue, stubborn carbon - workshop floor, food processing, transport, kitchen, marina. Heat breaks the oil bond cold water can't shift. Jetwave Explorer + Hybrid + Hynox series cover the AU hot-water range.

  • What is the difference between a pressure washer and a high-pressure cleaner?

In Australia, the terms pressure washer and high-pressure cleaner refer to the same type of equipment. Both use a motorised pump to deliver water at high pressure (typically 1,500–5,000 PSI) through a spray wand or lance. Petrol-powered units are generally called pressure washers; electric units are more commonly marketed as high-pressure cleaners. The cleaning capability is determined by PSI (pressure) and L/min (flow rate), not the name.

Pressure Washers

159 pressure washer units across all classes - DIY/home, electric, petrol, commercial, hot water, trailer-mounted and truck-mounted. Sub-parent collection covering the JetWave AU range, Graco G-Force II series, and Hyundai/Genelite homeowner units.

Sizing rule. PSI breaks the dirt bond; L/min carries the dirt off. Multiply for cleaning units. Domestic 1500-3000 PSI, 6-9 L/min. Light commercial 3000-4000 PSI, 12-15 L/min. Heavy commercial 3000-5000 PSI, 20-31 L/min. Match the unit to the working area per shift, not just headline PSI - a 4000 PSI x 8 L/min unit cleans slower than 3000 PSI x 15 L/min on large area.

Pump type matters. Axial pump on the entry/mid-tier units - direct-driven, lower-cost, suits intermittent use. Triplex (plunger) pump on the commercial and heavy-commercial tier - belt or gear-driven, higher pressure, much longer service life, the right pick for daily commercial use. Jetwave Hornet, Senator, Executive and PMG ranges all use triplex pumps. Graco G-Force II ranges across both depending on model.

Engine matching. Petrol units are matched to a Honda GX, Briggs Vanguard or Kohler engine. Honda GX is the contractor industry standard - reliability, parts availability, long service life. Vanguard suits heavy commercial. The engine HP rating must support the pump flow + pressure spec - undersized engines lug at full load and don't last. Diesel engine drive on the largest trailer/truck mounted units.

Hot water option. Cold water for general surface clean. Hot water (diesel-burner heated) for grease, oil, food residue, and stubborn carbon - workshop floors, food processing, transport, kitchens, marina. Jetwave Explorer + Hybrid + Hynox series cover AU hot water.
