FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Standard kit or custom: which stencil order do I need?

Standard kit for routine carpark and council work: numerals 0-9, accessibility symbol, arrows, give-way and stop bars are all in the GO Car Park Stencil Kit (Brady 876978) or the Graco-branded equivalent (24G778). Custom for council branding, oversized symbols, non-standard bay sizes, council priority symbols, and any project-specific stencil that the standard kit does not cover. Custom orders are available on enquiry with a 1-2 week typical lead time. Send the artwork and the size to GO and we will quote the stencil set.

  • Is the accessibility symbol stencil DDA-compliant?

The GO Car Park Symbol of Access Stencil (A45890) is sized for DDA / AS 1428 accessibility marking. AS 1428 series (Disability access) governs symbol size and proportion. Verify the current AS 1428 revision against the council, building owner or principal's brief before fulfilling tenders. Most council carpark tenders specify the standalone accessibility symbol stencil so the symbol can be marked at the AS 1428 size on existing bay outlines without re-stencilling the whole bay. For oversized accessibility symbols (some council projects specify larger than AS 1428 minimum), order a custom stencil on enquiry through GO.

  • Which RAC 5 SwitchTip do I use with stencils?

The 286 series RAC 5 Stencilling SwitchTip, typically a 286319 (3-19 fan / orifice) for standard carpark stencil work. The 286 black SwitchTip atomises the paint at the right fan width for stencil edges, where the LL5 yellow-line family would over-spray onto the stencil mask and lose the crisp edge. Most contractors carry both: an LL5319 for line work and a 286319 for stencil work, swapped between jobs on the same unit. Both ship in the Graco Stripe More Kit on first delivery.

  • How long does a custom stencil order take?

1 to 2 weeks. Standard pathway: customer brief and artwork to GO, GO quotes and manufactures the stencil set, GO ships. For council projects with submission deadlines or contractor tenders with start dates, send the brief 3 weeks before the on-site date so the stencil lands ahead of the work. Standard 3 mm or 5 mm aluminium stock is durable across hundreds of paint passes. A custom stencil is a multi-year investment for repeat-order council branding work.

  • Do I need linemarking masking tape?

On stencil work where the line edge needs to be sharp, yes. The GPI Orange Linemarking Masking Tape (TLO48, 18 mm x 50 m roll) is formulated for waterborne and solvent line marking paint, lifts cleanly from cured paint within 24 hours, leaves no adhesive residue and gives a sharp line edge on adjacent surfaces. Use on accessibility symbols where the symbol borders existing pavement markings, on council priority symbols where the boundary needs to be crisp, and on any custom stencil where the standard cardboard backing is not enough.

Choosing the Right Stencil Kit

Stencils make repeatable line marking work fast: a one-time stencil set drops bay numerals, accessibility symbols, give-way bars and arrows onto the pavement in seconds, and pairs with a 286 RAC 5 SwitchTip for clean overlap with no over-spray. Pick by the work: standard carpark and council kits cover the routine symbols, custom stencil orders on enquiry cover council branding and non-standard bay sizes, and the right paint plus tip pairing makes the line crisp on the first pass.

Standard carpark and council stencil kits. The GO Car Park Stencil Kit (Brady, 876978) is the first-order anchor for any carpark, council or contractor buyer: numerals 0-9, accessibility symbol, arrows, give-way bar and stop bar in one bundle. The Graco LineLazer V Stencil Kit Range (24G778) is the Graco-branded equivalent, unit-matched for LineLazer V users who want one badge across the stencil + unit + tip + gun stack. Both kits land same-day on most metro orders and ship with cardboard backing for transit protection.

Accessibility (DDA) symbol stencils. The GO Car Park Symbol of Access Stencil (A45890) is a standalone accessibility (wheelchair) symbol stencil for DDA-compliant accessible bay marking. Symbol size and proportion is governed by the AS 1428 series (Disability access). Verify the current AS 1428 revision against the council or building owner brief before fulfilling tenders. Most council carpark accessible bay tenders specify the standalone symbol stencil so the symbol can be marked at the correct AS 1428 size on existing bay outlines without re-stencilling the whole bay.

Custom stencil orders. For council branding, oversized symbols, non-standard bay sizes, council priority symbols and project-specific stencils, custom orders are available on enquiry with a 1-2 week typical lead time. Standard pathway: customer brief and artwork to GO, GO quotes and manufactures the stencil set, GO ships. Custom stencils typically use the same 3 mm or 5 mm aluminium stock as the standard kits and are durable across hundreds of paint passes.

Paint and tip pairing for clean stencil work. Pair the stencil with the 286 RAC 5 Stencilling SwitchTip (286319 is the standard fit) on the LineLazer family for clean overlap and minimal over-spray. The 286 black SwitchTip atomises the paint at the right fan width and orifice for stencil edges, where the LL5 yellow-line series would over-spray onto the stencil mask. For temporary edge masking on freshly painted lines, use the GPI Orange Linemarking Masking Tape (TLO48, 18 mm x 50 m roll); it lifts cleanly from waterborne paint within 24 hours and gives a sharp line edge.
