FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • Which Graco airless paint sprayer should I buy?

Match by daily run length and work type:

    • Light-use contractor / residential repaint / property maintenance: Ultra 390, Ultra 395, Ultra 450
    • Mid daily contractor (production tier, Standard Series chassis): Ultra 490 XT, 495 XT, 650 XT
    • Full-time production (large carparks, commercial walls, exteriors): Ultra 695 XT, 795 XT (Standard Series for capex-conscious; ProContractor for highest daily run time)
    • Roofer / largest area / heavy elastomeric coatings: Ultra 1095 XT Standard or ProContractor
    • Fine finish (cabinets, doors, trim): FinishPro GX 19
    • No mains power on the jobsite: petrol GMax II 3900 / 5900 / 7900 or petrol-hydraulic GH 130 / 230 / 300
  • What's the difference between the Ultra range and the Ultra XT range?

The Ultra 390, 395, and 450 are the entry electric ladder: brushless DC motors, 1.0 to 1.1 HP, max tip 0.021 to 0.023 inch, up to 2.0 L/min flow. They suit a contractor running a sprayer occasionally through to a few days a week. The Ultra XT range steps up to the Xtreme Torque brushless DC motor (1.3 HP on the Ultra 490 XT through to 2.7 HP on the Ultra 1095 XT), Next Generation Rapid-Response Pressure Control, a lower sound rating, and a substantially longer pump life in its class. The Ultra XT line is built for daily production and is where most contractors spraying five days a week land.

  • Standard Series vs ProContractor Series on the Ultra XT: which one?

Standard Series ships an Endurance Chromex hardened-steel pump rod. ProContractor swaps to the MaxLife Vortex pump system, which Graco specifies at six times the packing life of a standard piston pump. Vortex packings come in pre-oiled cartridges that swap in-field without a service agent, so the production-tier downtime cost is much lower. Pick Standard if the daily run time is moderate and capex matters most. Pick ProContractor if the unit will be on a daily run and a half-day off the job for a service trip is what you are trying to avoid.

  • Can I spray solvent-based 2-pack epoxy or industrial coatings on an Ultra XT?

Not safely. The Ultra and Ultra XT range is electric-motor and rated for water-based architectural coatings, water-based 2-component systems, and standard primers, undercoats, acrylics, and elastomerics. For solvent-based 2-pack epoxy (Jotacote 605, Interzone 954), intumescents (Interchar 3120), and other industrial protective coatings, you need an air-driven pump such as the Graco Merkur ES 30:1, Merkur X48 (48:1), King 45:1, King 60:1, or King 70:1. See the Industrial Spray Equipment range, or call us on 07 3204 2240 to spec the pump ratio against the coating's technical data sheet.

  • What is BlueLink and which Ultra XT units have it?

BlueLink is Graco's smartphone-activated Bluetooth and GPS module fitted to the ProContractor Series. It tracks unit location, logs material consumption per job (useful for accurate quoting on the next one), captures service notes for the repair agent, and shows a digital pressure read alongside the standard gauge. The Ultra 695 XT, 795 XT, and 1095 XT ProContractor Series units carry BlueLink as standard. Standard Series units do not.

Choosing the Right Professional Airless Sprayer

Match your airless paint sprayer to the daily run length, the coating you spray, and the maximum tip size you need to atomise it. Graco's electric Ultra and Ultra XT lines now cover the full electric range from light-use contractor jobs through to full-time production and roofer-grade work, all at 3,300 PSI working pressure. The petrol and petrol-hydraulic GMax II, GH, and TexSpray HD units extend that ladder onto jobsites with no mains power.

Light-use contractor (Ultra 390, 395, 450). The Ultra 390 runs a 1.0 HP brushless DC motor, 1.8 L/min flow, and a 0.021 inch max tip, sized for residential repaints, property maintenance, and light commercial. Step up to the Ultra 395 for an extra tip size (0.023 inch) at 2.0 L/min, or the Ultra 450 for the same flow with a real-time pressure display, so you can track pressure drift through a tip's service life.

Mid daily and production (Ultra XT 490 to 795). The Xtreme Torque brushless DC motor, Next Generation Rapid-Response Pressure Control, and a longer-life pump in its class. The Ultra 495 XT runs 1.7 HP at 3.0 L/min with a 0.027 inch max tip. The 695 XT and 795 XT (4.0 to 4.5 L/min, 0.031 to 0.033 inch max tip) carry the full Standard Series and ProContractor Series fork: Standard Series ships the Endurance Chromex pump rod; ProContractor Series swaps to the MaxLife Vortex pump, which Graco specifies at six times the packing life of a standard piston pump.

Heavy production and roofers (Ultra 1095 XT). 2.7 HP, 4.9 L/min, 0.037 inch max tip on the 1095 XT Standard Series. The 1095 XT ProContractor Series swaps in the MaxLife Vortex pump with the Extreme Rod composite for the longest deployed life in the electric line. This is the chassis for roof restoration crews running heavy elastomerics and acrylic membranes daily, and for any contractor running multiple guns or pushing wide fans through a 15-metre 3/8 inch hose.

For trim, doors, and cabinets, the FinishPro GX 19 is the airless hybrid: 0.5 HP, 1.44 L/min, 0.019 inch max tip, and a RAC X FF LP SwitchTip for a low-overspray, smooth lay-down on finish work. For solvent-based 2-pack epoxies, intumescents, and anything the safety classification says needs an air-driven pump, head across to Industrial Spray Equipment.
