Graco LineLazer ES3400 - Australia's First Look: Electric vs Petrol

The Graco LineLazer 3400 has been the workhorse of line marking in Australia for years. It's the number one machine in the country across a wide range of applications: car parks, councils, contractors, airports, mining sites. If you've been in the line marking game for more than five minutes, you know it.

But is that about to changeWe recently got our hands on the brand new Graco LineLazer ES3400, the all-electric version of the 3400 platform. Right now, it's the only one in Australia. Here's everything you need to know before it lands on shelves in August 2026

Same Performance. Full Stop.

Before we get into what's new, let's address the most important question: does switching to electric mean sacrificing performance?

No.

The ES3400 matches the original petrol 3400 across every core performance spec:

  • PSI: Exactly the same
  • Flow rate: Exactly the same
  • Maximum tip size: Exactly the same

If you're running an LL5319 and an LL5421 on your current 3400, you'll run the same tips on the ES3400. Your lines will look identical. Your setup won't change.

What does change is the machine itself, and that's where things get interesting.

10kg Lighter

The ES3400 weighs in at around 60kg fully loaded. That's 10kg lighter than the petrol 3400.

If you're loading and unloading a machine every day, or manoeuvring it around tight car parks and indoor spaces, that 10kg is the difference between a sore back and a good day. It's one of those specs that doesn't sound dramatic until you've spent a week on the tools.

What's New: The Features the Original Doesn't Have

The ES3400 isn't just a petrol 3400 with a battery bolted on. Graco has used this platform to introduce three upgrades that aren't available on the original.

ProConnect Pump

This is the first machine in the Graco line marking range to come with the ProConnect pump system. Pump changes take under 60 seconds.

Unscrew the hose connection. Loosen the pump housing. Pull the pump out. Slide the new one in. Done.

For anyone who's had a pump go down mid-job on a time-sensitive car park or council contract, you already know why this matters. Downtime costs more than parts.

SmartControl System

SmartControl is a full-time pressure regulating system that makes the motor and the pump talk to each other constantly. The result:

  • No deadband pressure

  • No pressure surges

  • No risk of overheating the motor

  • No risk of breaking the pump

Consistent pressure means consistent lines. Less wear on the machine means lower maintenance costs over the life of the unit.

Vortex Pump

The ES3400 ships with Graco's new Vortex pump, rated to last up to five times longer than the standard pump. Combined with the ProConnect system, that's a real reduction in both downtime and maintenance spend over the life of the machine.

What's in the Box

Standard inclusions:
  • Strainer

  • 60 mesh filter

  • LL5319 and LL5317 tips with RAC X orange tip guard

  • 15m hose (detachable from the gun arm for stencil work)

  • Flex Plus gun

  • Two 9amp DeWalt batteries

  • Fast charger (full charge in approximately 60 minutes)

Battery Performance: The Numbers

The ES3400 runs on the DeWalt 54V platform. Two 9amp batteries come standard.

On a single charged battery, you'll push approximately 38 litres of paint through the machine. With both batteries, that's 76 litres total, which translates to roughly 200 car park bays per full charge.

Because it runs on the DeWalt platform, you can add extra batteries as needed. If you've already got 54V DeWalt tools on the truck, those batteries are compatible.

For rural operators: the ES3400 can be charged from a small generator. No fuel station required.

Dimensions and Portability

  • Length: approximately 1.6m with handlebars (handlebars remove for storage)
  • Height: approximately 1m
  • Width: approximately 1m
  • Weight: approximately 60kg
It fits in a ute, a van, or off a trailer. The three-wheel system and easy brake on the back haven't changed from the original 3400.

The gun arm design has been updated too. There's now a solid bar running through the gun arm that the petrol 3400 doesn't have, designed to give more stability when spraying over rougher surfaces.

Petrol vs Electric: Which Should You Choose?

This is the question we get asked most, and the honest answer is: it comes down to your operation and your preference.

Run the petrol 3400 if:

  • You have an existing fleet of petrol 3400s and it makes sense to stay consistent
  • Your team knows the machine inside out and it's never let you down
  • You're in an environment where fuel is readily available

Run the ES3400 if:

  • You're starting a new line marking operation or refreshing your fleet
  • You're spraying indoors: no fumes, no gas, no smell
  • You're tired of engine maintenance on top of pump maintenance
  • You want the ProConnect pump and SmartControl system
  • Your council or government fleet is moving toward electrification
One area where electric clearly wins: indoor use. The ES3400 produces zero fumes and is completely silent when it's not actively spraying. The petrol motor runs at 80 to 90 decibels constantly until you shut it down. The ES3400 only makes noise when you're actually spraying.

A Safety Note on Silent Operation

Because the ES3400 is silent when not in use, the machine can still be under pressure even when it sounds like it isn't running.

Always evacuate the pressure from the lines before leaving the machine unattended, before handling tips or guards, and before any maintenance. Pull the gun trigger to confirm there's no pressure in the system before touching anything downstream.

Noise Levels: What the Manual Says

Graco's own manual shows the maximum running sound of the ES3400 and the petrol 3400 are exactly the same in decibels. The noise, when spraying, comes from the pump and the spray, not the engine. So while you won't notice a difference in sound during active spraying, the difference when you stop is significant. The ES3400 goes completely silent. The petrol unit keeps running.

Servicing and Maintenance

With the petrol 3400, you're maintaining two systems: the Honda engine and the pump. Oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, all the standard engine upkeep on top of your pump maintenance.

With the ES3400, you're maintaining one thing: the pump. The electric motor is a fully enclosed system with no brushes or serviceable parts.

Once a year, remove the cover and wipe out any dust or debris. That's it. The motor doesn't need servicing.

When Can You Get One?

The ES3400 is landing in Australia in August 2026, possibly July if we're lucky. We have the only unit in Australia right now and will be first to stock when they arrive.

The Team's Verdict

At the end of the video, we asked the whole team: electric or petrol?

Everyone picked electric.

Quieter. Smoother. Lighter. Less maintenance. And with the same line quality, the same PSI, and the same flow rate as the machine that's dominated the Australian market for years, there's very little reason not to make the switch.
