Product details

Aqua 98 is Damar's waterborne road marking paint, an acrylic emulsion built for spray application on bituminous and concrete substrates. It is touch dry in about two and a half minutes at 25 degrees, which is what lets a crew mark a live road and get traffic back on it without a long closure.

This is the black version in the 15 litre pail. Volume solids are 66 per cent, so it lays a full film without the shrinkback you get from thinner emulsions, and it holds drop-on glass beads well, including over aged existing markings. Certified under APAS AP-S0041/5 and approved to NZTA M7 2017.

Use it as supplied, no dilution. Clean up with water, or Damar PF5 thinners for a thorough equipment clean. Beads are ordered separately and are what makes the line read at night. Call our team on 07 3204 2240 if you need help matching film thickness to a specification.

Features
  • Fast Touch Dry: Touch dry in about 2.5 minutes at 25 degrees C, so a live road can be reopened quickly instead of being closed for a long cure.

  • 66 Per Cent Volume Solids: A high solids emulsion that lays a full film with less shrinkback, which is what carries the dry film thickness a specification asks for.

  • Glass Bead Retention: Formulated to hold drop-on beads well, which is what earns the night-time retroreflectivity reading. Beads are ordered separately.

  • Bonds Over Aged Markings: Adheres to existing worn markings as well as bare substrate, so remarking does not need the old line removed first.

  • APAS And NZTA Approved: Certified under APAS AP-S0041/5 V4 and approved to NZTA M7 2017, which is what most road authority specifications reference.

  • Single Coat Application: Applied in one coat as supplied, with no dilution and no induction time.

  • Water Clean Up: Tools and lines wash out with water. Damar PF5 thinners for a thorough equipment clean.

FAQs

Common questions.

How fast can traffic go back on it?
Touch dry is about 2.5 minutes at 25 degrees C and recoat is 55 minutes. That is what makes it workable on a live road. Cooler or more humid conditions slow it down, so allow more time in winter or early morning.
How much area does a 15 litre pail cover?
3.0 to 3.7 square metres per litre at 220 to 180 microns dry film, so a 15 L pail covers roughly 45 to 55 square metres. On a 100 mm line that is about 450 to 550 metres per pail.
What film thickness should I be marking to?
The data sheet figure is 180 to 220 microns dry in one coat. If your specification calls for more, for example the VicRoads 300 micron dry minimum on roadmarking, work back from volume solids: wet film equals dry divided by 0.66, so 300 microns dry needs about 455 microns wet. Set travel speed to suit.
Do I need glass beads as well?
Yes, if the line has to be visible at night. Paint on its own reads black after dark. Drop-on beads are broadcast into the wet film and are what return headlight light to the driver. Beads are ordered separately.
Is it approved for road authority work?
It is certified under APAS AP-S0041/5 V4, the waterborne roadmarking specification, and approved to NZTA M7 2017. Check the exact approval reference your specification calls for before you order, and we can supply the certificate.
Can I get colours other than black?
Aqua 98 is APAS certified in White, Black, Y14 Golden Yellow, R13 Red, B21 Ultramarine Blue, G13 Emerald Green and R62 Venetian Red. We stock the first six. Venetian Red is available to order, so talk to us if you need it.
How do I clean up?
Water while the paint is still wet. For a thorough equipment clean, particularly through a pump and lines, use Damar PF5 thinners. Do not let it dry in the gun or the filters.
