A ball valve is a quarter-turn valve that uses a hollow, perforated, pivoting ball to control flow. It is open when the ball's hole lines up with the flow and closed when the handle pivots it 90 degrees. The handle lies flat in line with the flow when open and sits perpendicular when closed, giving easy visual confirmation of the valve's status.
Ball valves are durable and perform well after many cycles, closing securely even after long periods of disuse. These qualities make them a strong choice for shutoff and control applications, where they are often preferred to gate and globe valves, though they lack the same fine control in throttling applications. Typical applications include agriculture, turf and home watering.
