FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • 24 / 36 / 48 mm Envo Tape: which width?

24 mm for narrow detail - window frames, glass, fine trim where wider tape overlaps. 36 mm is the standard contractor width for skirting, trim, frames, architraves - the most-used roll on the truck. 48 mm for wide straight-line masks - ceiling-to-wall, large reveals, kerbs - where one pass of wide tape replaces two passes of narrower. Stock all three.

  • Pre-taped masking film or separate tape + plastic?

Pre-taped film combines the tape edge with the plastic film in one product - press the tape line, peel out the folded plastic. Faster than tape-then-plastic on doors, windows, trim runs. Separate tape + plastic gives more control over the offset between tape and film and is cheaper per metre, suits jobs where you already have the tape line in place. Most production contractors carry both.

  • Why kraft paper instead of plastic film?

Kraft paper is heavier-weight, doesn't melt under spray heat and absorbs paint better than plastic. The right pick in spray booth and large-area spray work where plastic film would distort or where the masked surface needs paint absorbed rather than beaded. The iQUIP Masking Film/Paper Dispenser holds the roll and applies the tape edge in one pull - production tool for high-volume commercial masking.

  • How do I get the cleanest tape line?

Pull the tape off while the paint is still tacky - paint dried over the tape edge tears the line on removal. Match the tape adhesive to the substrate: light-adhesive painter's tape for most painted surfaces, higher-adhesive variants for textured, dusty or low-energy substrates where standard tape won't grip. Press the tape edge down hard along the line before paint to seal the edge against bleed-under.

  • How long can I leave Envo Tape on a surface?

iQuip Envo Tape carries 14-day exterior exposure as the standard rating, meaning the tape can stay on the surface for up to 14 days outdoor without UV-degrading the adhesive and leaving residue. Interior exposure is longer (typically 30+ days). For longer than 14 days exterior or 30 days interior, lift the tape and re-mask. Surface residue is the main risk on extended-exposure tape.

Envo Tape sizing. 24 mm Envo Tape is the narrow detail width - cutting in around window frames, glass, fine trim and edge detail where wider tape would overlap into the line. 36 mm is the standard contractor width for general edge masking on skirting, trim, frames and architraves - the most-used roll on the truck. 48 mm is the wide masking width for ceiling-to-wall lines, large reveals, kerbs and any straight-line mask where a single pass of wide tape replaces two passes of narrower. Stock all three on the truck.

Pre-taped masking film. Pre-taped masking film combines the tape edge (Envo tape) with a plastic film that unfolds across the masked area in one pull. Press the tape edge along the masking line, peel out the folded plastic to cover the protected surface - single-step replacement for separate tape and plastic sheet. Faster than tape-then-plastic on doors, windows, trim runs and any area with both an edge mask and a large adjacent protection zone. Refill rolls available.

Kraft masking paper and dispensers. ProMask Kraft Masking Paper is the heavier-weight masking paper used in spray booth and large-area spray work where plastic masking film would melt under spray heat or where the paper absorbs paint better than plastic. The iQUIP Masking Film/Paper Dispenser holds the roll and applies tape to the leading edge in one pull - production tool for high-volume tape-and-paper masking on commercial fit-out and large interior spray work.

Pre-folded plastic masking film. iQUIP pre-folded plastic masking film is the standalone plastic film without an integrated tape edge - run a separate tape line first, then unfold the film. Lighter and cheaper than pre-taped, suits jobs where the painter already has a tape line in place or wants more control over the tape-to-film offset.

Tape selection on substrate. Match the tape adhesive to the substrate. Light-adhesive painter's tape (Envo standard) for most painted surfaces, leaves clean line on removal. Higher-adhesive variants for textured, dusty or low-energy substrates where standard tape won't grip. Always pull tape off the wall while the paint is still tacky for the cleanest line - paint dried over the tape edge tears the line on removal.
