Formalin spill kits are designed to deal with spills of dilute aqueous solutions of formaldehyde, more commonly known as formalin, reducing exposure to formaldehyde gas in the event of a spill. The neutralising powder contained in the kit converts formalin into a passive, non-toxic substance.
The super absorbent polymer cools the solution, reduces formaldehyde concentration and transforms it into an easily removable semi-solid mass that cools rapidly to minimise formaldehyde off-gassing, with the conversion from a liquid hazard into an easily managed solidified gel taking less than 5 minutes. This spill kit comes complete with warning signs, instructions, disposal bags and basic personal protection equipment, and additional equipment such as organic vapour respirators can be included if required.
