Why choose an M-class dust extractor?
Proven Performance for User Protection
M-class dust extractors are designed for professional users in collision repair, construction, and woodworking, specifically for tasks that generate medium-risk dust, such as sanding hardwood, plaster, putty, latex, and oil paints. This type of dust has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) of greater than 0.1 mg/m³, meaning the dust extractor must retain 99.9% of the dust to ensure safety. To meet these standards, the airflow in the suction hose must be at least 20 m/s.
M-class dust extractors are not suitable for hazardous dust with OEL values below 0.1 mg/m³, hot materials like burning cigarettes or hot ash, flammable or explosive liquids such as petrol, solvents, acids, or alkalis, and flammable or explosive dust like magnesium or aluminium dust.

Built for trade crews working with plasterboard, MDF, concrete, brick, and silica-containing materials, the DEXOS 1217 weighs 13.9 kg and combines a 17-litre canister with a brushless motor and 250 mbar of suction. These are the dust types where Australian WHS rules require M-class extraction.
It includes Auto Filter Cleaning (AFC) that clears the filter on a programmable interval, an autostart power outlet that triggers the extractor when a connected tool is switched on, and Bluetooth connectivity via the myMirka app for airflow monitoring and firmware updates.
Compared to L-class extractors, the DEXOS 1217 captures fine dust below the 0.1 mg/m³ OEL threshold that applies to most construction dusts in Australia.
Who it's for: painters, sanders, renovators, and licensed trades working with hazardous dust.
Who it's not for: H-class work such as asbestos, mould, or carcinogenic dust below 0.1 mg/m³ OEL. For those, use an H-class extractor from our dust extractors range.
