Product details

This is the genuine Graco Endurance Vortex MaxLife displacement pump for the TexSpray Mark X ProContractor and the TexSpray 7900 HD ProContractor. Two things separate it from a plain Endurance pump. The Vortex rod rotates as it strokes rather than running straight up and down, so the load is spread right around the throat and piston packings instead of sitting on one side of them. The MaxLife rod and sleeve then give that evenly loaded wear surface a harder finish to run against.

It fits TexSpray Mark X ProContractor and TexSpray 7900 HD ProContractor, model year 2019 and newer. Graco changed the pump on these machines in 2019, so a sprayer built before then takes a different part. If your machine is near that cutover, send us the serial number and we will confirm it before you order.

Machines in the same family take different pumps, and they are not interchangeable. Order the 17H831 for the TexSpray Mark X Standard, the 25E689 for the TexSpray 7900 HD Standard, and the 17H837 for the TexSpray Mark X IronMan or TexSpray 7900 HD IronMan. The model badge on the sprayer is the quickest way to tell them apart.

When the packings wear rather than the pump, there are two ways back. The QuikPak cartridge kit (17H852) drops a pre-oiled packing cartridge in as one piece, which is the fast option on site. The standard packing kit (17A578) is the conventional loose-packing repair for a workshop bench. Crews running these machines hard generally keep a spare pump as well, because a pump swap is measured in minutes and a rebuild is not.

Features
  • Vortex Rotating Rod: The displacement rod turns as it strokes, balancing the load across the packings so they wear evenly and run longer before a repack is due.

  • MaxLife Rod And Sleeve: Hardened rod and sleeve wear pair, the longer-life surface pairing Graco fits to the ProContractor pumps.

  • QuikPak Cartridge Repair: Takes the 17H852 pre-oiled cartridge kit, which installs the packings as one piece instead of stacking them loose. The cartridge cannot go in the wrong way round.

  • Machine Specific: Built for TexSpray Mark X ProContractor and TexSpray 7900 HD ProContractor, model year 2019 and newer. Not a universal pump.

  • Rated Duty: 3300 psi (227 bar, 22.7 MPa) maximum working pressure, with a 1-5/16-12 un(m) fluid inlet and a 1/2 npt(f) outlet.

  • Ceramic And Carbide Wear Parts: Wetted parts run to tungsten carbide, ceramic and chrome plating at the surfaces that see the most abrasive duty.

  • Spare On The Truck: A pump swap on site is measured in minutes. Carrying a spare turns a worn pump into a short stop instead of a lost day waiting on a part.
Included accessories

Supplied as one complete, assembled displacement pump, ready to fit to the sprayer:

  • Displacement rod and sleeve in the Vortex MaxLife specification, assembled.
  • Throat and piston packing stacks, fitted and torqued to Graco's specification.
  • Intake valve with the carbide seat, ball and o-ring in place.
  • Packing nut and o-ring, fitted.

The QuikPak cartridge kit (17H852), the standard packing kit (17A578) and throat seal liquid are sold separately. Fitting requires the tools listed in manual 3A6583A: a vise, two 12 in adjustable open-end wrenches, a hammer no heavier than 20 oz, and throat seal liquid.

FAQs

Common questions.

Will this pump fit my sprayer?
It is built for TexSpray Mark X ProContractor and TexSpray 7900 HD ProContractor, model year 2019 and newer. It is a machine-specific pump, not a universal one: the TexSpray Mark X Standard takes 17H831; the TexSpray 7900 HD Standard takes 25E689; the TexSpray Mark X IronMan or TexSpray 7900 HD IronMan takes 17H837. Check the model badge on your sprayer, and if you are near the 2019 cutover send us the serial number and we will confirm it before you order.
What is the difference between a Vortex MaxLife pump and a plain Endurance pump?
Two things. The Vortex rod rotates as it strokes instead of moving straight up and down, which spreads the load around the whole circumference of the packings rather than concentrating it on one side. MaxLife is the harder rod and sleeve wear pair those packings run against. Together they are what Graco fits to the ProContractor and IronMan machines rather than the Standard ones.
Why does my machine need this pump rather than the Standard one?
Because Graco fits a different pump to the ProContractor machines than to the Standard ones, and the parts are not interchangeable. Ordering by machine name alone is where most wrong orders come from, which is why the model badge and the serial number matter.
Should I replace the pump or repack it?
Two options. The QuikPak cartridge kit (17H852) installs the packings as a single pre-oiled cartridge, which is the quick route and hard to get wrong. The standard packing kit (17A578) is the conventional loose-packing rebuild for a workshop bench. Replace the whole pump when the rod or sleeve is scored rather than just worn, or when you want a spare ready so a failure never stops the job. On these machines the swap is measured in minutes.
What pressure is this pump rated to?
3300 psi, which is 227 bar or 22.7 MPa. The fluid inlet is 1-5/16-12 un(m) and the outlet is 1/2 npt(f). Every hose, gun and accessory in the system needs to be rated to at least 3300 psi as well.
Do I need throat seal liquid?
Yes, and it is worth keeping a bottle with the machine. Throat seal liquid sits in the wet cup above the throat packings and stops material drying on the rod, which is one of the most common reasons packings fail early. It is listed in the tools needed section of manual 3A6583A.
