FAQs

Common questions answered.

Five of the questions we hear most often on carpark and street linemarking gear. Full knowledge base on our FAQ page.

  • 5 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm nap: which one?

Nap depth matches surface texture. 5 mm short nap for very smooth doors, trim, gloss enamel - leaves the lowest stipple. 10 mm medium nap for standard plaster interior walls and ceilings - the default. 15 mm long nap for rendered, textured or rough surfaces - reaches into the texture profile. 18-25 mm extra-long for masonry and exterior render. Pick the shortest nap that still gives full coverage in one or two passes; longer naps stipple more and shed more on the wall.

  • Microfibre or woven sleeve?

Microfibre sleeves hold more paint, lay off cleaner and reduce roll marks - the choice for finish-critical interior waterborne work. Woven covers handle solvent paint, oils and primers where microfibre solvent compatibility may not match. Check the sleeve label for waterborne or oil compatibility; if you're rolling a mix of waterborne and solvent on the same job, separate sleeves for each chemistry.

  • Wooster Sherlock vs Sherlock GT?

Sherlock is the standard locking cage frame that holds a 230 or 270 mm sleeve without spinning on the cage - rolls cleanly without the cover shifting under load. Sherlock GT is the threaded-pole upgrade: the pole threads into the frame for a positive lock instead of a friction fit. GT is the right pick where the painter is loading a long extension pole and needs zero pole-frame slop. Both Sherlock and Sherlock GT pole + frame combinations are available on the matching extension pole range.

  • How does the Graco Jet Roller work?

Jet Roller is a pressure-fed roller that connects to a Graco airless sprayer hose. Paint feeds through the hose directly into the roller frame instead of dipping the sleeve in a tray. The painter rolls the surface and back-rolls in the same pass. Production use case: large ceilings and feature walls where spray + back-roll saves the time of spray-then-hand-roll. Pair with the CleanShot shutoff valve so the operator can switch between gun and roller without disconnecting the hose.

  • Brush bristle: synthetic or natural?

Synthetic bristle (nylon/polyester blend) for waterborne paint - holds shape wet, doesn't swell, leaves fewer brush marks, washes out in water. Pure bristle for solvent-based oil paint, varnish and stain - lays off the heavier solvent material cleanly and holds the load on longer brush strokes. The angle matters too: angled sash brush (37 to 63 mm) for cutting-in window frames, sash, door reveals; wall brush (75 to 150 mm) for heavier-fill application on broad areas before rolling.

Brushes & Rollers

Trade-grade brushes, microfibre and woven roller sleeves, frame systems and brush families from Wooster, iQUIP Bonum, Two Fussy Blokes, Monarch, Australian Brushware and Graco. 147 products covering cutting-in, full-roll, mini-roll, ceiling, render and floor application.

Roller sleeve selection rule. Nap depth drives finish and coverage. 5 mm short nap for very smooth surfaces (doors, trim, gloss enamel finishes) - leaves the lowest stipple and the closest sprayed-finish look on roll. 10 mm medium nap for general interior walls and ceilings on standard plaster - the default contractor pick. 15 mm long nap for rendered, textured or rough surfaces (brick, stippled walls, render) - drives paint into the texture profile that shorter naps can't reach. 18-25 mm extra-long nap for masonry, blockwork and exterior render.

Microfibre vs woven. Microfibre sleeves (Two Fussy Blokes, Wooster Pro Doo-Z premium tier, iQUIP Turbo Roller) hold more paint per dip than woven covers, lay off cleaner and reduce roll marks - the contractor choice for finish-critical interior work in waterborne. Woven covers (Wooster Pro Doo-Z standard, Monarch range) suit solvent-based materials, oils and primers where microfibre solvent compatibility is uncertain. Match the sleeve to the paint chemistry on the can.

Roller frames and the Wooster system. Wooster Sherlock and Sherlock GT frames + extension poles are the industry-standard contractor cage system - Sherlock is the locking cage that grips a 230 or 270 mm sleeve without spinning, Sherlock GT is the threaded-pole upgrade. iQUIP carries the Wooster frame range plus Bonum private-label cages. Euro Rollers heavy-duty 250 and 300 mm frames suit larger commercial work where roll-out speed matters.

Cutting-in and brush families. Brush bristle types matter for finish. Synthetic blends (nylon/polyester) suit waterborne paint - hold their shape wet, don't swell, leave fewer brush marks. Pure bristle suits solvent-based oil paint, varnish and stain. Angled sash brushes (37 to 63 mm) for cutting-in window frames, sash and door reveals. Wall brushes (75 to 150 mm) for heavier-fill application. iQUIP, Monarch and Wooster cover the trade brush range; Two Fussy Blokes covers Australian-made microfibre mini rollers and rollers for furniture-finish work.

Specialty rollers and pressure roller systems. Graco Jet Roller is the pressure-fed roller head that connects to a Graco airless sprayer hose - paint feeds through the hose to the roller frame and is back-rolled into the surface in one pass. Production ceiling and large wall work where the airless spray + back-roll combination saves time over spray-then-hand-roll. See the matching Extensions & Rolling Systems collection for the EvenFlow pressure roller kit and the CleanShot shutoff valve that converts the gun to roller-feed.
