Product details

Piston valve repair kit 287837 replaces the piston valve in displacement pump 287834, the lower inside the RPS 2900 pump fitted to RoadLazer RoadPak and RoadPak HD line striping systems. The piston valve is the check at the bottom of the piston rod, and it is what lets the pump build pressure on the down stroke.

A worn piston valve shows up as a pump that will not hold on one stroke. If the pump holds going down but drops going up, or the other way round, the fault is in one of the two valves rather than in the packings. Traffic paint is abrasive and the piston valve wears alongside the intake seat, so it is worth having both on the shelf ahead of a marking season.

Supplied as Graco's complete piston valve kit. The 22.2 mm piston ball that runs against it is not in this kit, it comes in packing kit 287835. Position and rebuild procedure are in manual 311485 below, reference 210.

Features
  • Genuine Graco Kit: Supplied as Graco part 287837 so the valve seats and cycles the way the pump was built to, instead of an aftermarket approximation.

  • Restores Down-Stroke Pressure: Replaces the piston check that lets the lower build and hold pressure through the down stroke.

  • Season-Ahead Part: Traffic paint is abrasive and the piston valve wears alongside the intake seat, so most operators carry both before a marking season rather than mid-job.

  • Fits Both Rigs: Suits the 287834 lower whether it is running in a RoadPak striping system or a GH 833 gas hydraulic sprayer.

  • Documented Position: Reference 210 in manual 311485, which covers the full pump strip and rebuild step by step.

FAQs

Common questions.

Which RoadPak units does this kit suit?
RoadLazer RoadPak (25M701, 25M702, 25M703, 25M704, 25M705) and RoadPak HD (25M706, 25M707). RoadPak runs one RPS 2900 pump, RoadPak HD runs two. It replaces the piston valve in displacement pump 287834, the lower inside the RPS 2900 pump those systems run. The same lower is fitted to the GH 833 and GH 833ES gas hydraulic sprayers.
How do I know it is the piston valve and not the packings?
Worn packings bleed pressure on both strokes and usually weep at the throat. A failed valve shows up as a pump that holds on one stroke but not the other. If it holds going down and drops going up, or the reverse, you are looking at the piston valve or the intake seat rather than the packings.
Does the piston ball come with it?
No. The 22.2 mm stainless piston ball (102972) is supplied in packing repair kit 287835, not with this valve. If the ball is pitted, order the packing kit as well.
What else should I do while the pump is apart?
Repack it. Kit 287835 carries both packing stacks, and Graco calls for packings to be replaced seasonally anyway. Check the intake carbide seat too, kit 287838 covers that end. Inspect the cylinder bore and piston rod, because if either is scored the full lower (287834) is the fix.
Can GO Industrial do the work for me?
Yes. Our Deception Bay workshop services Graco line striping systems and we are an Authorised Graco Warranty Repairer and Service Centre. Send the pump in on its own or book the whole rig through. Chat with us or email sales@goind.com.au to get it booked.
